Meeting Basic Needs
Providing for the most basic human needs – food, shelter, healthcare – is an essential part of the community’s plan to end homelessness. These services provide basic life necessities and help connect people with other essential resources for the path out of homelessness.
Helping Obtain Income
Insufficient income is one of the primary causes of homelessness. Programs that help increase people’s income fall into two categories:
Connecting people to employment: Imagine trying to find a job while living in a shelter or on the streets. Job training and job referral services can frequently assist homeless people in finding sustainable work.
Connecting people to benefits: Helping people get assistance such as disability payments, childcare, and food stamps can hasten the path out of homelessness. Barriers often include mental illness, poor literacy skills and lack of information.
