services
Helping people find appropriate housing is the first step to end homelessness, but it is not enough. An array of services is a critical part of the solution. Which services can you help deliver?
By clicking on one of the puzzle pieces above, you are taking a crucial first step to end homelessness in Charlotte. Educate yourself on the existing efforts, then get involved with one of the agencies listed with each puzzle piece and make a difference.

Meeting Basic Needs

Providing for the most basic human needs – food, shelter, healthcare – is an essential part of the community’s plan to end homelessness. These services provide basic life necessities and help connect people with other essential resources for the path out of homelessness.

Helping Obtain Income

Insufficient income is one of the primary causes of homelessness. Programs that help increase people’s income fall into two categories:

Connecting people to employment: Imagine trying to find a job while living in a shelter or on the streets. Job training and job referral services can frequently assist homeless people in finding sustainable work.

Connecting people to benefits: Helping people get assistance such as disability payments, childcare, and food stamps can hasten the path out of homelessness. Barriers often include mental illness, poor literacy skills and lack of information.

Supporting People in Housing

People transitioning out of homelessness may need assistance with everything from budgeting, care and maintenance of a house to connecting to community resources and locating and moving into housing. Providing various support services can make the difference in whether or not people fall back into homelessness.
